FAQs - Dentures
What is a denture?
People wear dentures to replace lost or missing teeth. Dentures can be made of either acrylic or metal.
A Complete Denture replaces ALL natural teeth in either the Upper or Lower jaw.
A Partial Denture replaces the residual spaces left by SOME missing teeth.
How many different type of dentures are there?
There are many different types of dentures. They come in a mix of different materials, colours, shape and sizes. Your dentist will be able to tell you which denture best suits your mouth type.
How do I look after my denture?
Like your own teeth, dentures need to be cleaned daily to remove bits of food and plaque. They are fragile and may break if dropped so clean them over a sink full of water or over a soft surface.
1. Use a denture brush and toothpaste to give your dentures a scrub, avoid hot water and normal toothpaste as this can damage the material. Clean all the surfaces thoroughly.
2. Soak the dentures in a specialist denture cleaner, following the manufacturer's instructions.
3. When you remove your denture place it in water to protect it from damage and drying out.
4. Gently clean your gums and any remaining natural teeth.
Should I remove my denture at night?
Your dentist may recommend you remove your denture at night. Place your denture in water to protect it from damage and drying out.
